In a small village lives the girl with the green hair: RAYA. She is the last survivor of the greenheads. RAYA is searching for her parents who were ones banned from the village. Nobody knows why. Or nobody will say why. With the help of her friend Nana, who can read the magical language from the ancient newspapers, RAYA goes on a quest that brings her to surprising and strange places.
As I walk beside the tracks, it will lead to nowhere. I have to find them now that I am a child. I want them to read me stories before it is too late. I don’t want to be remembered as the silly girl without parents. I imagine my mother as a beautiful woman with a lovely voice. And I think of my father as a quiet, mysterious man. I know for certain that they tell each other how much they love one another day and night.
RAYA is a philosophical and political fantasy fairy-tale from Palestinian theatre maker and auteur Rimah Jabr. Her political background is reflected in her work in a contemporary, witty, absurd but mostly profound narration.
