Calamity Jane is the most famous woman of the Wild West. You may know her from the movie starring Doris Day, or from the television series Deadwood. Now, she is paying a visit to Theater Gnaffel, who help her bring a real Wild West Show to life.

Calamity Jane was a role model for many women in her day. She went her own way, feared no one and she was the first woman to wear trousers. She could ride like a man, fight like a man, cuss like a man, shoot like a man and drink like a man.

She drives puppeteer Elout Hol to absolute despair, and she’s not afraid of anyone. Still, behind her tough exterior hides a girl with great dreams and desires.

Ad de Bont wrote Het Wilde Westen van Calamity Jane especially for Theater Gnaffel. He has worked with the theatre group before, in the productions De Ingebeelde Zieke and De Hompelaar. These shows were highlights in the careers of both Elout Hol and Ad de Bont. In this latest play, Ad does justice to Elout’s masterful puppetry skills.
